I have always been fascinated by aerial tramways around the world. The telefrico in Merida, Venezuela rises about 10,000 feet and stops at four different levels where you can get out and hike, or you can hike right from the bottom. Just click on to the country.

What's the wx like in Venezuela right now? Maybe all those "Summer Skyliners" can just head south.

H_J - I have never been to Venezuela. Its on my long list of wanna goes. What is wx. - tagmet (these abbreviations get me every time)

Oh, sorry, Cy. Walt is correct; wx = weather. It's an abbreviation that I picked up in the Army. Probably dates back to telegraph/teletype where the only reliable way to speed up xmission rates (xmit = transmit, another "pick up" from the Army) was to have really terse, condensed terms. I think aviation may use wx as well.
Haven't been to Venezuela, but I had the opportunity to hike in southern Brazil in 2001. Pretty darn cool being in the jungle, but definitely stay on the trail!

WX is the telegraph abbreviation for weather. It was also used for the same purpose in Morse code. Its use still continues as written 'shorthand' especially within the weather fraternity, among the aviation and maritime communities and by Amateur Radio operators. The NOAA Weather Radio channels are numbered WX01 through WX10.
