Looking to get geared up for this coming winter.

Looking for full winter boots, what's the best pair and why?

Also looking for "Ice Tools", suggestions on those as well?

Thanks in advance for all ideas and suggestions.

One thing the boot has to have is a "Welt Design" to handle my 14 point front point Grievel Crampons for ice.

The best boot is the one that works best for you.

I asked this question a few years ago and got several good recommendations. When I tried them on they didn't fit me right. I ended up with Scarpa Charmoz GTX as they were the only ones I tried that didn't hurt the sides of my toes. I need more toe space than others.

I haven't had these out in the field yet, so this winter will be the test. (If not, they go back to REI.) My old boots I won't even talk about.

Now, a first decision is plastic double boots or not. Plastic boots can be a pain on the dry approaches. For me they were overkill. For others, a necessity.

Since no more replies have appeared, you might ask at the Whitney Portal Store board. They have a long thread about winter boots in their Winter Access forum.
