Hey, check out this study on blood oxygen saturation at altitude.

I guess Viagra is good for everybody! Maybe they'll start selling Viagra Shooters at the Tram Bar. Walt - if you try out your "Week at the Bar" acclimatization experiment, watch what you order!

Zip--so is sildenafil Viagra? If so I am seriously going to ask my neurologist about this. I have migraines, or, correction--when I HIKE in heat or altitude I get migraines. Of course, heat or altitude pretty much describes local hiking. So I would be very interested in anything that could improve the blood flow to my brain during hiking. But, ah, seriously, my impression of Viagra is that the blood is all directed south, so to speak? That wouldn't help with my migraines, although then maybe I wouldn't care ...

Ginkgo sounds like a safer experiment.

The Viagra thing was more interesting than valuable.

They say the results are mixed on Ginkgo, but I used it last year in Tuolumne Meadows (elevation about 8600 or so) and found very good results. For the first time ever, I could sleep through the night without waking up gasping - that was a major improvement. There are a couple of drugs designed to help avoid AMS completely, but they're discussed in detail on Whitney Portal (and probably SummitPost as well) from time to time, so I won't go into it here. Since the Ginkgo worked well for me, I'll stick with it. Since those headaches get bad, Cynthia, I'd definitely second Perry's idea and say give the Ginkgo a try.

I'm afraid that's borderline "useful."

This would be "more interesting than valuable:"
