Exactly why most of us stick with beer -- the ultimate performance beverage. :D

i keep water in my bladder and carry a bottle with a combo of Cytomax and Heed. i also prefer to keep my beverage on the weaker side.

i stopped using gels last year when i realized they were giving me GI problems and prefer to eat Philippine brand Dried Mangoe from Costco for some sugar on the run.

I carry plain water also. I also have a small container with Morton's Lite Salt (half the sodium, twice the potassium of table salt) plus a few packets of fast-food salt. Have never needed the salt myself, but a couple of friends have.

I carry a few slices of dried pinapples for snacks, a few butterscotch candies, plus a PB&J for lunch.

And of course, a couple of cool ones waiting at the trailhead...

A person less mature than I might think that this thread is headed off in the direction of too much personal information.

On extended backpacking trips we have been using Tang with salt and baking soda added (not too much). It is cheap and tastes great.
