Sorry to see this is finally coming to an end. I thought this ended a few years ago, but apparently 2008 is definately the final year. If you can, or if you've never done it before, make the time to get down there for a fun weekend; you won't be disappointed. Its not a race but more of a 'fun ride'; put a little effort into it and its a good workout. No carbon fiber road bike or Spandex/Lycra uniform needed, just a comfy bike and comfy clothes.

Why is it the last one?

I have no idea why its finally ending. Last time I road it was in 1998.

The ride in 2000 or 2001 (?) was originally scheduled to be the last one, since the major sponser at that time (I belieive Dos Equis' local Baja and Southern California distributors) pulled out, and no other sponsers could be found. Apparently someone did step up a few years later and got it going again.

I have heard through the grapevine that crime in northern Baja has dropped participation, not to mention kept a lot of tourists out of the area, and insurance for the event got to be astronomically expensive.
