Skyline Trail /c2c in September and October

General Palm Springs area.

Cy: Sorry for the confusion. I rarely change my plans but this International trip came out of nowhere and I need to be there. Thanks for picking up the clarification Kathy.

We still plan on getting up there again before the snows begin.

C2C on 10-14 - Getting proper sleep

Postby Michael T » Mon Oct 02, 2006 7:13 am

Mark: Cy will be guiding my group from Santa Barbara on October 14th. As far as sleep goes, Cy is right to get plenty of sleep prior to the hike at 12:30am. When we get to Palm Springs on the afternoon of the 13th, our plan is to eat an early dinner, so we can be in bed by 5:00pm. That should give us almost 7 hours of sleep, and since our hotel is just under 1 mile from the museum, it will not take us too long to get there. I also plan on early bedtimes on the 11th and 12th also. See you on the 14th. Michael T.

Long Valley Permit?

Postby bcox » Mon Oct 02, 2006 8:53 pm

I am wondering what time the Long Valley Ranger Station opens in the morning so I can back into a departure time from the valley floor and not wait around at top for them to open. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. Brian

Brian - You get the permits outside the ranger station and drop them in the box. If you want to speak to a ranger I would guess they come up with the first tram.

Skyline Trail /c2c in September and October

On October 7 th four of us are hiking up the Skyline Trail and hiking out to Humber Park via Wellmans Divide and the Devils Slide trail. Outdoorsclub.org has 10 people taking the Devils Slide trail from Humber Park to the tram. Maybe we will meet them somewhere up there.

I am happy to report that Teresa (Flatfoot on the board) and her brother made it up to San Jacinto Peak from Palm Springs this last Saturday and hiked out to Humber Park (Idyllwild).

Skyline trail - Oct 14

Postby Cy Kaicener » Fri Oct 13, 2006 6:24 am

Regarding the weather as of now http://pstramway.com/cams-weather/weather-detail.asp says there is only a 25% chance of rain at the top of the tramway. Click on to 5 day forecast. They may not be wanting to scare away business but Skyline is in the rain shadow of San Jacinto and there is a very good chance of it remaining dry. Above the tramway it will be cold and windy.

Lyle - I still plan on going. Here are two weather links
http://hiking.socalweather.net/ (not updated)
http://members.boardhost.com/sgva/
San Bernadino has a 60% chance of rain on Saturday
The worst that can happen is that I turn back on the trail, but I dont think it will be necessary.
