Skyline Trail /c2c in September and October

General Palm Springs area.

From Redlands it looks really smoky around San Jacinto. The Palm Springs side is probably not smoky, but I don't think I want to take a chance of hiking up into that smoke from Palm Springs tomorrow.

I'll probably end up doing a hike in the San Gabriels instead.

Skyline on October 28

Postby Cy Kaicener » Fri Oct 27, 2006 3:23 pm

The Mt San Jacinto State Park is closed beyond the Ranger station, but the tram will stay open. As far as I know this does not affect the Skyline Trail up to the Tram. http://www.parks.ca.gov/pages/712/files/102903.pdf
If you want to bag the peak, there is a full moon next week end, and a few days after that..

Skyline

Postby guest » Fri Oct 27, 2006 3:32 pm

Hi,
I'm doing Skyline & a few friends are too on Sat, I was at 9,400 ft. on a small peak close to tram yesterday, and the smoke was drifting south over Idyllwild and out by Anza, so the trail should be ok, just don't plan on going beyond the tram, as it's closed as Cy mentioned.

Cy, that's from 2003. You'll notice that the State Park and PS Tram web sites say nothing about fire closures.

Skyline Trail/c2c on Oct 28

Postby Cy Kaicener » Sat Oct 28, 2006 3:28 pm

You were right Perry. Ann Marie and I hiked Skyline today and Ann Marie went for the Peak. We got up to the tram at 12.15 pm under clear skies. There was no smoke to be seen anywhere. On the way back the hills between Cabazon and Banning on the San Jacinto side were scarred black. About ten people passed us up on the trail. We lucked out with the weather and the fires.
Sorry about the erroneous info on the closure. I clicked on to the Parks Link on your website and did not notice the date.

Hi Marmot - Three of us (so far) are hiking Skyline on Veterans Day which I think is on the eleventh. I am going next week as well. I will start with a friend of mine at 3.30 am. on both days.

Cy,

I must be missing something. How can we "bag the peak" if the park is closed?

I have plans to do C2C November 10th, but I don't want to break the law doing so.

Thanks,
John

Skyline Trail/c2c in october and November

Postby Cy Kaicener » Mon Oct 30, 2006 6:35 pm

John - I did not notice that the announcement was from three years ago.
I only focused on the large printing. Both the trail and the Park are both open.
Last Saturday my hiking partner bagged the peak. She checked with the Ranger and filled out and filed a permit.
