Sat. Long Run Group?

Postby bbiles » Wed May 28, 2008 7:01 am

Hi,

I will be staying at the Renaissance Esmeralda Resort in Indian Wells on June 21. Was wondering if there is a running group I can hook up with on that Sat morning for a long run. I am from Austin, Texas and I'm training for the NYC marathon and will have to miss my group run here that weekend. Is it too hot for long runs there in the summer ? Just not sure about the temp in the mornings in June. I will need to do a 12 - 15 mile run.

Thanks for your help!

Hi Brett,

Here's the only run club I'm aware of here in the Coachella Valley.

They may still be doing wkend runs in the heat, sometimes they carpool up higher.

Hi bbiles. Welcome to the area, nice to hear from a runner! Here's a little data on the temps.

6/21
Avg. high 106°F
Avg. low 71°F
Record high 118°F (1968)
Record low 53°F (1944)

A run in the early morning should be fine, but I'd recommend finishing just as the sun comes up. The desert gets hot quickly. guest mentioned a club - I only know of one, but it's about 70 miles from there (in Loma Linda), and you'll be done with your run in about the same amount of time it would take to make a drive like that. Good luck with your training.
