Idyllwild Hikes

Postby parrothead_in_the_desert » Tue Aug 15, 2006 9:21 am

I'm spending the weekend in Idyllwild, staying at the Strawberry Creek Inn. My friends and I want to do a relatively easy hike - we only have about 3 - 4 hours free on Saturday. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for us. We were going to just check in at the Ranger Station and ask them to give us a suggestion, but I figured I would check to see if anyone had any experience on any hikes in Idyllwild they would reccommend. Word of mouth is always better than what you read in a hiking book, I think. :)

Any info/directions would be greatly appreciated!

The State Park website has a good map of the San Jacinto Wilderness on its website, with mileage distances between points. It can be found at:

http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=636

Under Brochure/Maps select Park Map.

Parrothead,
Deer Springs Trail is a good hike. Check out the map - about 2.3 miles up Deer Springs trail - Suicide Rock Trail branches off to the right. SRT is about a mile long and winds up at Suicide Rock - a great place for a picnic.
