A few months ago I posted that my friend's SPOT messenger device "utterly did not work" on a hike from Humber Park to Wellmans. After much discussion with the company about the proper way to use SPOT, he pushed the "I'm OK" button on the hour yesterday on a Humber to summit dayhike and it worked everytime.
The key is to hang the device outside the backpack at all times and press and hold for two seconds only. Never put the device in a pocket or backpack, even after pushing the button as the signal may not actually emit for a few minutes.
I was very impressed and might get one after all.
His wife loved those messages!
