Federal forest hiking permits

Here's another non-Skyline/C2C post to plug up the BB.

Where can you get an application to start a hike on a trail beginning in the Federal area of the San Jacinto Mtns (the west side of the mtns)? The SBNF/SJ pages don't have anything except 'contact the Idylwild ranger station', and they don't respond to e-mail requests for info left on their comments page. Coming from behind the "Orange Curtain" I'd rather get a permit in advance; I'd rather not drive all the way to Idyllwild and be left out.

You could try calling them: 909 382 2922
Very friendly folks, definitely the "drop on by an we'll write you up a permit" but I think they can snail mail them out. Dropping by happened to work for me this time, but I know what you mean (committing a 2 hr. commute it would be really nice to ensure you'll get the permit).

I've seen applications online somewhere, but had their ph. number much more handy.
