Been checking the PSAT website weather reports for San J. Is this a "fairly accurate" forecast resource or should I be calling the LVRS for up-to-the-minute details? Thank you.

The tram weather is specific to the tram station, and can be used as a general guide. You might also want to check a regional weather forecast report before going up into the SJW, or any other So Cal mountains.

With the exception of this strange year, late summer & fall usually have more thunderstorms, they can be isolated to certain areas, and they usually appear in the late afternoons. The storms are more on the desert side of the mountains, and can form (and dissapate) quickly. I wouldn't put off a hike if the weather is predicted to be fair, just keep an eye on the sky if you're hiking near the peaks so you won't get caught.

Thank you, Scrambleman. I have been using weather.com for the region and sometimes one says one thing and the other says another. I am going to keep my eyes open to those "puffy clouds." From ground they look marvelous, but those cumulus clouds aren't too friendly in the mountains.

I have fine tuned it about as much as I can at an elevation of 10,539 feet. I tried to get the point closer to the summit, but within 295 feet of the summit elevation is close enough for me. I saved the link in my favorites - I have done the same for San G and Whitney. Wx conditions and fcsts seem to be pretty accurate.

Here you go:

San G. - About as close as I could get on this one is 10,893 feet.

Whitney - Closest is 12,211 feet .

You can probably fine tune these a little more with lat lon coordinates, but this works to get a general idea of the weather.
