Black Mountain Road? Fuller Ridge Trailhead?

Postby Hikin_Jim » Mon May 19, 2025 10:38 pm

Is Black Mountain Road open right now? If so, how far up is it open? I understand that sometimes there's a locked gate a few miles in. I want to go to the Fuller Ridge Trailhead.

How's the road's condition? Some years it's in great condition and other years, well, not so much. I have a standard Honda Accord.

Jim,

Seems to be covered in Jon King's latest report. Both Black Mountain Road and the Fuller Ridge trail.

From San Jac Jon:

Black Mountain Road is open and in its typical non-graded condition, i.e. lumpy but readily passable in any moderate clearance vehicle.

"Moderate" doesn't sound too bad. I've done it in my Accord before. Maybe it'll work.

I'm considering either a hike from the Cedar Springs Trailhead down on the Desert Divide or from the Fuller Ridge Trailhead to hopefully bag San Jac and possibly Kristen Pk.

I was going to do a 4 day through hike from the Cedar Springs Trailhead to the Fuller Ridge Trailhead, but the person with whom I had arranged a car shuttle needed to back out last minute due to his daughter. I'd have done the same thing, but now I'm scrambling to re-plan the trip.
