Will be interesting to see how many folks, who plan this for a year, fly from far away, rent a hotel, etc., decide to go up anyway. I doubt the state park has the resources to police this much, (although there are volunteers and park aids who may at times). Also, (like the white and orange dots along trail over the years), we'll see if this gets vandalized, (hopefully not, as it really is for peoples safety, and that of SAR's personnel too). A friend of mine, (& many) took a deadly fall on Skyline many years ago, and even one of the most experienced Skyliner took a 50 footer a month or two back, (was ok, luckily).
Would be nice if there was a way to screen & allow those with snow & ice experience on steep slopes, (although tough to come up with a system and the means to determine experience and ability to regulate it).
I'm pretty sure the same thing is happening on Baldy, as that mt has seen it's fair share of fatalities in recent years, (including an experienced friend of mine), usually related to icy falls.
I just noticed the thread titled Skyline Conditions, has close to 6k views! So there's definitely some folks who won't be too happy about this, hopefully they'll wait until it reopens, and its not too warm in the desert by then.
