People Missing in General Idyllwild Area (Hwy 74, Hwy 243)

Postby Perry » Mon Aug 03, 2020 10:17 am

I saw a post on Strava about this and then found this article:
https://idyllwildtowncrier.com/2020/07/ ... n-missing/

The other missing people are Jade Kemerer and Venessa(sp?) Vlasek. All missing this year. Does that seem like an unusual amount of people for a rural area? The months last seen are March, June, June, June, July, July. The March date was a hiker and the only missing male. All others are female.

I may be slow to respond to this thread. Very busy this week, but this sounded important to share on the forum and discuss.

It does sound unusual. Creepy.

This happens the Mohave Desert, but not in the San Jacintos.

I briefly corresponded with a couple people and got very different opinions on this. At this point, I don't have an opinion, but I would pay attention to surroundings at the trailheads. Hikers go missing, and it's hard to find them. We know that, so that March incident doesn't seem suspicious. What got my attention is 5 women disappearing in 2 months. But cancer clusters can happen sometimes randomly without statistical significance, so I imagine this could also be coincidental.

Some are already talking rape and murder. The Town Crier sells these undertones. Maybe confirmation bias is stalking us.

Newer article:
https://idyllwildtowncrier.com/2020/08/ ... g-in-area/

Does it make sense that Prifogle's backpack was found in March but his body has not been found since? It's my understanding that when people shed items of clothing in the last stage of hypothermia they don't travel very far. Maybe someone has a better explanation for why a hiker would leave their backpack.

Parallel discussions:

Mention of 9 people missing but no sources listed.

:( Kind of makes me nostalgic for the good-old-days when the perps would simply break in to your car at a remote and lonely trailhead and steal anything of value you left in it. No bodily injury involved. :(

What I find the oddest is the woman who went missing on her own ranch. 160 acres but no mention of a missing horse so presumably she can't have gone far. If she was dragged off by a mountain lion theyd probably have found her remains.

What I find even odder is that 6 disappearances have not prompted a major investigation. "Yes, we have logged that disappearance in our computer" is the end of it? Did I miss something here? Even taking out three (the guy, simply because he was the only guy, the woman on her own ranch and the woman who might have dementia) and I still think "serial killer" rather than "Yawn! Yes, we logged that." Three fairly young females disappear without a trace? Are their families running into dead ends with the authorities? Do so many people disappear each year that we don't investigate this anymore? I am at a loss...
