Current Snow Levels on Skyline and Beyond

Postby awesome » Wed Apr 29, 2020 5:16 pm

Hi, does anyone know if the snow levels on the upper portion of skyline and the rest of the way to Mt. San Jacinito Peak require snowshoes? I'm thinking of doing C2C2C in a few days and want to get an idea if it's feasible. Last weekend going to the peak via Deer Springs had pretty nontrivial snow after the junction with Fuller Ridge. Thanks for any info. The heat in Palm Springs might preclude this hike regardless of the snow.

Hi awesome. The tricky part will likely come between Flat Rock and Long Valley. The traverse will almost for sure have quite a bit of remnant snow from a couple of weeks ago, and it is probably deep, wet and slippery. The heat may not be too bad since it's supposed to cool down to the mid 90's on the weekend. If you give it a shot and have to turn around somewhere in the manzanita or near the traverse, as long as you handle it intelligently (from your post I am guessing that you will) you should be able to manage a safe return if needed. Have fun and post pics if you go!

Also check the Long Valley Cam:

Not long ago the snow topped the picnic table.
