Cactus to Tram

Hi there C2C experts. I'll be in Palm Springs again in April and I'm curious about snow on the trail. I know from season to season it can vary, but is there typically snow in the tram area in early April? I'm not looking to go all the way to the peak in April, just museum up to the tram. Not a fan of hiking in the snow.

A few weeks back I was in San Diego for work. Went to the peak from idyllwild. Had the peak all to myself, considering the tram was closed. Awesome to have that opportunity and well worth the detour. Meeting Max was also pretty cool.

Any advice on typical April c2c weather is greatly appreciated!

Howdy Dale :)

It depends  Yes, I hate that answer also.

If we have another big snow year, ascending Skyline in April may require crampons, ice-ax and helmet. If it is a normal snow year, perhaps only microspikes from the traverse to Grubbs notch. Low snow year = no problem.

Miles of smiles,
Ellen

PS -- Just found this thread from hiking Skyline this April:
