The Missing PCT Hiker report illustrates a number of things that can go wrong in the snow. A German PCT hiker lost his pack on Fuller Ridge, presumably because it slid downhill, and had to spend a night out in the open without his gear. A helicopter search was delayed by overcast weather. Even the SAR team found trekking through the snow heavy going. When they found they needed to put on their crampons, it was 'of course' too steep to put them on.
But all turned out well. The subject called for SAR with an InReach device, and stayed put until he was found.
Nice rescue, nice report.
