San Jacinto trail closure update

Mt. San Jacinto State Park & Wilderness
1 hr ยท

Hiking is now allowed from the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway (North side of the mountain) into Long Valley and into the Mount San Jacinto State Park Wilderness. Please stop by the Long Valley Ranger Station and obtain a permit prior to your hike.

At this time, you CANNOT enter into Mount San Jacinto State Park Wilderness from the Idyllwild (Southwest side of the mountain). The reason for this, the Forest Service (USFS) currently has a closure order in place, which affects the entire ranger district (which Mount San Jacinto State Park Wilderness is in the middle of) All of the trail heads that lead into our property are on USFS property that is currently closed by this order. USFS is working to amend the closure order which will open the trail heads leading onto our property as well as other areas of the mountain. This will allow us to have full access from all sides of the mountain into the Mount San Jacinto State Park Wilderness.

Out of respect for our neighboring property (USFS) Wilderness, please stay within the boundaries of the Mount San Jacinto State Park Wilderness. If you have any questions regarding this, feel free to stop in the Long Valley Ranger Station and ask our staff. Failure to comply with the USFS closure order could result in a citation.

Once again, thank you all for your patience during this event.

Anyone know if the State is allowing camping in their wilderness area?

Thank you Ellen, so glad to hear the State park acted quickly on this. It's hot down here, and we only have a bit more than a month before tram shut-down.
Hopefully by then, we can use Devil's Slide & others, (probably not South Ridge for a while).
I hadn't made it over to Willow Creek area since re-opening a while back, so hopefully this new closure won't be long.
Enjoy the cool forest! ss

More good news! The Forest Service will be reopening trails out of Idyllwild on Saturday. Devil's Slide, Deer Spring, Marion Mtn, Fuller Ridge, etc will reopen. South Ridge trail will remain closed. Tahquitz Peak fire lookout is accessible from Humber Park via the Devil's Slide trail.
