I read that article too, Wildhorse. It saddened me a lot. Access to wilderness is very limited for many people for varying reasons, including disability and age, but it's really troubling when it's the result of poverty ( I meet many kids in the Coachella Valley who've never been up on the tram to the peak--it's too expensive) or unfortunately well-founded fears of experiencing racial hostility. I also have noted that women have a lot of fears about hiking while alone, and those fears, too, are based in some sad truths. I look forward to a day in the future when we all can enjoy the wilderness, freely, in every sense of the word.
