Hiking Fees in San Jacinto Wilderness

Backpacker magazine has reported that the USFS, BLM and National Parks are starting to charge hikers fees at trailheads, on top of park admission fees and the adventure pass parking fees.

Does anyone know if USFS has such plans for Devil Slide Trail and other trails in the San Jacinto Mountains?

I have not heard any rumors about this in the San Jacinto Wilderness. I can't imagine the Park Service charging people to hike in addition to charging the park entrance fees. How could they possibly enforce such a policy in a park the size of Joshua Tree?

The courts have specifically ruled that at least the US Forest Service may *not* charge for just hiking.

State parks are free of course to charge as they like.

It looks to me like it's similar to the adventure pass. You're paying to park and for the amenities at the trailhead.
