Thanks for posting these, Cy and HJ. Whoa. It made me exhausted just to read them.

Question on a related matter:I know someone sometime or other has posted about on this board, and I even think I asked about this before, too, but hey, what's the good of getting old if you can't repeat yourself? So, to repeat myself--has anyone on this board ever attempted the old 'cattle' route that supposedly goes up from somewhere along South Palm Canyon? It has a name, I just forget what it is. Or can point me to a previous post on this? I've always been intrigued by the idea of doing that route, though it's probably far beyond my capabilities. Still I can dream!

Yes, it's been talked about a number of times here. Supposedly there's not much left of the Gordon Trail now.

Pathetically I was secretly hoping the mountain fire would have cleaned that route somewhat

I think you mean the Silver Fire of 2013 (the Mountain Fire, also of 2013, was further south), but I know what you mean. I was hoping that the Lake Fire would clear out the N Fork of the Whitewater, but it only got down about 1/2 below Big Tree Camp.
