Fingal's Fingers

Does anyone know if the geographic spot named Fingal Fingers (now a federally protected point of interest due its cultural significance) that marks the NW quadrant of the San Jacinto National Monument....did anyone else use that same name for this location prior to the Monument's creation?

Fingal's Fingers; named after Fingal's Cave in Scotland famous for its columnar basalt.

Not a hiking area; fingals classified 'an endangered scenic view area' (from I-10), this area we get protected, but in return we are giving up Garstin, Henderson, Lykens North and South trails,,...???
