I have done SC2C2B (Snow Creek to Clouds to Bar - aka tram) with Ellen twice. It is a VERY long hike that has much more variety than C2C... physically, scenically, and mentally. You get a taste of everything from mind-numbing hiking for miles with little elevation gain (the beginning) to steep stuff (from Fuller Ridge to the Peak). It is one of those hikes that I swore I would never do again, but I found myself yearning for another round. The 2nd time was very cold and windy so when we got to the junction to the Peak late in the afternoon we skipped tagging the top of San Jacinto and went straight down to the tram. I feel that I have unfinished business from my 2nd trip, so of course, I have a hankering to do it again.
To hike from the Snow Creek/PCT trailhead to San J Peak to the tram is 30 miles. You start at about1600' and the highest point is San Jacinto Peak at 10,804'. There is some loss of elevation on Fuller Ridge which you must make up for along the way. We did it in the fall because we don't enjoy hiking in the heat. Even starting at about 3:00 AM when the days are short got us back to the tram after dark. Obviously, our route required a car shuttle to get us back to our car from the tram to Snow Creek Village. Make sure you do not park IN Snow Creek Village as the residents are kind of funny about folks doing that.
