We're thinking about it, but having second thoughts due to the forecast. It's right on the edge what I'd consider safe conditions. I've hiked it when it's hotter, but most in the group were miserable.

What time are you starting?

I've been looking over the forecast, checking out different areas of the trail. If we decide to go ahead with C2C, I believe the group will be capable of a 7-8 hr pace for Skyline. Starting @ 3:00 would put us above 5000' for sunrise. If the forecast is correct, we should be in 50 degree temps as we start the toughest part of our climb (Dry Falls to Grubb's Notch).

We drive in from San Diego, *sigh*...so we'll probably arrive at the trailhead around 2:30-3ish. Looking forward to an absolutely amazing day in the mountains.

I swear, when I retire I'm going to move off the grid, either somewhere close to San Jacinto or maybe somewhere up near Yosemite -- and just hike and be out in nature as much as I can.

I'd love to live in Mammoth!

If you see us on the trail, say hi. I'm the guy on the left. The girl in red and guy on the right will be with me. My name is Lyndon...HikingGeek works too if it's easier for you to remember.

Howdy All :)

Went up Skyline yesterday with Sister Sally, Miracle Marilyn, Craigmeister and Sandy. It was 66 at 5:10 am. We were at 3 K when the sun rose. Also had a nice breeze and cloud cover.

We did a C2B (Cactus to Bar) -- I'm not feeling ready for C2C yet.

Last Thursday, my starting temp at 5 am was 82 and it was HUMID  However, I was treated to a lovely lightning show in the Chocolate mountains and gorgeous views, which is why I went :D

I'll be doing C2C on sunday. Planning to start at 6am from the Lykken Trail - Ramon Road trailhead.

I have a new favorite day of the year: whatever day the Tram Road Challenge falls on!

Saturday was absolutely, unquestionably glorious! This was my sixth Skyline/C2C and BY FAR the best conditions to date (both weather and crowds). We started around 3:15, hit Flat Rock slightly after sun up, and crested Grubb's Notch around 9ish. Skies were crystal clear (clearest I've seen?) and temperates were nice all the way up.

Also...because the Tram Road Challenge was taking place, the first tram-load of people weren't being ferried up until 9:50 -- meaning Long Valley and the upper station was literally devoid of people for at least 30 more minutes after we arrived. It was so serene and surreal experiencing this. Needless to say, the trek up to the summit was as peaceful as you will ever experience on such a perfect-weather day. This is the type of solitude one can only hope for in nature :)

I say this with certainty -- I'll be checking my calendar each year for when the Tram Road Challenge is taking place, and I will be doing Skyline or C2C that day.
