It was a good day up there - beautiful before the crowds. Glad Ted made it through the night!

Anyone wanting to see what a Helicopter Hoist is like, check out the RMRU web site write up on this mission.
There is a link to a you tube video.

Hiking back up? That's a new one, but it makes sense to go back to your last position where you were oriented.

Also hiking up to get better cell phone reception made sense. The guy seemed to be pretty level headed. Glad he's safe.

I always thought you had to let the end of the cable hit the ground before grabbing it to discharge static. But what a great video. Thanks for sharing.

OldnSlow - That may have been the case at some point(and it makes sense), but the Sheriff's Aviation Dept now discourages it because of the damage that often happens from letting the cable drag on the ground. Additionally, there is very little time to get properly hooked in and time is definitely of the essance when in windy or bad conditions. A few missions ago, some of the team members experienced some mild shocks due to static electricity, but it wasn't terrible. Maybe its a blessing to keep members on their toes and WIDE AWAKE!!
