Securian was having their annual convention in Palm Desert. The ride on the PSAT was one of the attractions in a "package deal." This was not an "organized" hike like the Outdoors Club or the Sierra Club. So no roster, no head count and no itinerary. A free-for-all with no leader. Just a bunch of people who wanted to ride the tram and walk around in the mountains.
I was not there at the convention. Word got out here at my office yesterday about the two hikers being found. The home office fired out an email to all affiliates about the news. It eventually wound up in the local papers and on Yahoo. An article appears on page 14 of the May 11 OC Register News section.
I do not know what trail they took. Apparently permits were not filled out.
I can assure you Securian will take this matter seriously to prevent any other incidences like this from ever happening again.
