Desert Renewable Energy Conservation Plan

This is worth looking at and commenting on (information on how to comment is on the website):

A lot of reading. In the end, you will have more restrictions and closed areas as recreation is not the number one priority.

This plan will designate land for development of alternative energy projects and land to be conserved. Once final approval for this plan occurs, any proposed alternative projects that are sited in the preferred areas will be fast-tracked for approval and it will be much more difficult for the public to stop or reduce them. This plan will have an impact on our access for a long, long time.

Wow, that is a lot to read through. It sure is hard to complain about something if you don't have time to read it. But without reading all that, I can say these things are happening because Americans aren't reducing consumption and stopping population growth.

The economics of energy are rather complex and I don't understand them, but I have always wondered about the way it is being done. Of course BLM and other government agencies (which is really the public) will make money leasing the land where the sites are developed, but those that manage our money in the federal government will just give that money earned back to big corporations developing the alternative energy projects in subsidies. There's no question that we need to be exploring and developing alternatative energy, but I have to question the methods being used. Why not cover the rooftops in urban areas with solar panels and let the individual property owners sell the excess they produce instead of letting a few big corporations benefit? Even better, why don't we all conserve more of our resources as you suggested Perry?

This maps shows the pink areas they are prefer to allow development: http://drecp.org/documents/docs/fact_sh ... _Areas.pdf

There is a big chunk in Riverside County.

In addition to allowing development in the development focus areas, I believe they want to place more limitations on access and recreation uses in the conservation areas.

What compexity? Let's see: Ya got yer DFA's and your LUPAs. Yer GCPs and NCCPS.

In simple terms: DRECPS.

Hey, if the tortoise is good with it, who are we to question?

That's a lot to think about. Just identifying the specific cause of problems is hard enough. To come up with solutions...harder. Convincing somebody to implement them....even harder. I'm too tired at the moment to say anything meaningful, but maybe in a few days I'll have some thoughts... Apparently Scott has this all figured out. :D

No. I Just don't have much patience for technocratic obfuscation and the orwellian use of tortoise imagery.

We've entered a phase where looting has become the engine of our economy, with trashing the environment just one aspect.

Insisting on a profit based solution to problems at this point is a game for chumps.

Not intending to launch a political manifesto here. Peace all. Enjoy the rains.

Here's a commentary on the plan and the massive amount of reading one would have to do and how unlikely it is that the public's comments will be considered:
