With C2C season coming up, I thought it would be fun to do a little route description of my own. Let me know what you think.

Good write up. One mistake. Ernie Maxwell Trail is in Idyllwild below Tahquitz Rock at Humber Park. The route you want is the SID DAVIS trail.
How can I be lost if I don't care where I am?

Thanks for pointing that out. Are you referring to to trail that goes up San J's east ridge?

I had stumbled upon a report calling it the Ernie Maxwell Trail, but that seems to be a mistake. Upon closer inspection, two other reports refer to it as the "East Ridge Trail." Its basically a disconnected part of the old Sid Davis Trail.

This is an old trail which leaves the San Jacinto Peak Trail shortly after Long Valley Ranger Station and joins back up with it just before the giant switchback located just below the summit. From the ranger station, follow the San Jacinto Peak Trail 0.5 miles to a point just before it crosses Long Valley Creek at a series of logs. The Sid Davis Trail will branch off to the right, appearing very faint. It gets more defined after a few hundred feet. The trail will continue west, paralleling Long Valley Creek until it intersects the San Jacinto Peak Trail. After Tamarack Valley, the trail grows very faint is (should be it) can be difficult to follow. Just continue west until you hit the San Jacinto Peak Trail. This route cuts 1.4 miles off the San Jacinto Peak Trail (each way) and contains about the same gain. It is an excellent and popular winter snowshoeing route.

There is an old Tamarack trail that goes up the East side of Mt. San Jacinto, but it still puts you on the Peak Trail and has no maintenance. Sid Davis Route will just spit you out at the top of Tamarack Campground it doesn't continue up to the top. Most people take the Ranger Route thinking its the Old Tamarack trail which it's not, but this route will also take you to the Peak Trail by the boulder field. It looks like your showing them a variation of the Ranger Route and the old Tamarack trail on your map.

I wouldn't suggest these back-country trails for someone who hasn't done them before it's where most people get lost or turned around. If you don't know the trail you can end up in a great deal of chinquapin... I would probably post a warning on this suggestion other then the trail is faint.

Cool write up, its always nice to see people taking interest in helping others not get lost.
