Mt. Jacinto HAM Repeaters

Postby mxms » Thu Sep 04, 2014 10:41 pm

Hi,

Wondering if anyone out there hikes Mt. San Jacinto with their Ham radio gear. If so, do you know of an open repeater in the area? I usually carry my HT.
Any frequencies that you know are monitored?

We were planning hike this weekend (Sunday 09/07) but the weather doesn't look favorable so we'll re-schedule either to Saturday or some other week.

There are a couple of repeaters at the tram. I'll have to look up the freqs but they are public and you should be able to find them without too much trouble. I use them often.

Also from SJ summit you can talk through the Catalina repeater which is kinda fun.

Anyone know if the Idyllwild repeater is open or do you have to be a club member? I'm a new HAM as well and will be testing my radio out at the peak on a trip at the end of the month.

Appears to be open. I don't see any reference that it's members only on their website .. http://www.milehighradioclub.org/

Thanks. I didn't see any reference either but being new to HAM I didn't know if it was implied.

Funny, when I am up there I usually take My KW TH D72a so the Wife can see where I am and yes she does check  . I play on 146.520 from time to time with good results. You would be surprised with the line of sight from up there. Have fun
