Best Skyline Ever Today

Postby Sally » Wed Apr 02, 2014 8:04 pm

Ellen, Marilyn, and I started from the Museum at about 6:00 this AM, just in time to catch the sunrise. Since we were all feeling a little sluggish today we decided to put it in low gear, relax, and enjoy the day.

The cactus are getting ready to bloom, and we spied a large specimen with pink needles and yellow flowers. There were a small amount of tiny wildflowers. Also, there were some very nice blooming grasses.

We were treated to fantastic clouds and the shadows they made all around us, contrasting with patches of brightly lit terrain. The day wouldn't have been complete without the rainbow that appeared.

It was brisk, and we found the first snow around Florian's Cache. Right before the traverse we were amongst rime ice flocked trees. When we got to the traverse the trail was pretty much covered in less than an inch of snow. Although we lugged up our microspikes we did not need them as the snow was rather sticky. When we got to Coffman's Crag it started snowing. It was windy up at the notch.

It's doubtful that these gorgeous conditions will last 'til the weekend as the temps will begin rising tomorrow.

Please enjoy the pictures, some of my best:

Yep great pics it's beautiful like that. It was nice this morning, sunny and great temps but there was hardly any snow left.

Yes, you have been busy....Michon and. I have had fun hiking together, such as at sedona, Arizona and some trails up at Ortega canyon. Love the video journal's as well as the storylines to your adventures. Keep it up and see ya on the trails soon enough I'm sure.

Sally the pictures look so wonderful! Was this the Cactus to Clouds trail? I am still learning about this area and was trying to figure out where all the points are that you mentioned. I.e. Coffmans, etc idk! Really interested :) So wonderful that it started to snow!

You ascended through more habitats and weathers in one climb than many people achieve in an entire summer vacation.

I know you earned every exquisite moment.
