Hi! I'm Jason. Me and my girlfriend have been hiking every weekend for the past year or so down here in Orange County. Our hikes average in the 5-6 mile range with up to 700ft of elevation gain.
Last weekend we took a trip to Palm Springs and did the Red Jeep tour through the San Andreas fault zone and got to hike around in the slot canyons in that area. That was pretty cool.
The next day, we took the aerial tram and hiked around for a bit up there. We did the Desert View Trail. It's not that long or intense, but it was different getting used to exerting energy in the thin air!
Long story short. . .we had so much fun up there in the San Jacinto mountains that we're planning on coming back and seeing what else it has to offer. I've read around on this site over the past week, and we've decided that we're going to make it our goal to mike to San Jacinto Peak from the upper tram station.
It's going to be about twice as long as our usual hikes, and about 3 times the elevation gain(!), but I think we can handle it. Over the next month we're going to climb higher and longer than we usually do to get ready for it. Hopefully we can get ourselves ready before it starts snowing up there! lol
Anyway. . .I'm glad I found this place. You all seem really cool. I hope we can get to meet some of you someday up on the mountain!
