Condition of Skyline

Postby bytebit » Wed Oct 30, 2013 8:54 am

Hi there. A good hiking buddy and I plan on doing Skyline to the Tram this Friday. I've done Skyline twice this year and it is certainly a very challenging hike and a fabulous workout, too!

Was wondering if anyone who has been up Skyline in the past few days has noticed any snow/ice around, below Long Valley. I cannot wear/use crampons, safely. Thanks for your reply. Good day, David

Hi David,

I'm subscribing to this thread so that I'm notified if a reply is posted.

I believe I met you a couple of weeks ago. My father-in-law and I hiked C2C on 10/19. I hiked/talked with on our descent between Wellman's and Round Valley, then again at the tram station.

I took a look at the top portion of the trial, just below Grubbs Notch this evening and it has almost no trace of snow. I didn't get down far enough to scout out the traverse, but there didn't seem to be much snow on the east side, under the tram. On the other hand, at the point where the trail goes up the drainage to Round Valley, the northerly facing slopes were covered with snow and the trail had some icy parts, not serious but a little slippery. Hope this helps.
Happy Trails!
