Taking the tram Sunday

Postby KathyW » Wed Sep 19, 2007 10:27 am

I'm going to try to take the first tram this coming Sunday. I'm not sure how far I'll go - maybe just to Round Valley. Recently, I bought an annual tram pass so that I could take tram up more often. I have found that the trail from Long Valley to Round Valley makes for a great trail run (but I'm still walking and running) - took me 30 minutes to get from Long Valley to Round Valley last try. Is anyone else headed up on Sunday? Hopefully, there will be some snow up there.

Also, does anyone have snowshoes that are made for running? If so, what kind and how are they working out?

i am going... i am going up in order to scout out the trail from where C2C reaches the tram, the rest of the way up to the peak... i hiked from the museum to the tram last year but this year i want to make it to the peak in one shot... i am going to invest some reconnaissance towards that end... have you gone to the peak before? do you have any maps you could share or do you know somewhere for me to get one? i am hoping there will not be any snow until mid to late november that way i can still make my BIG hike in late october... i would prolly not go if there is snow... well e-mail me or PM me if you want some company or can help me K

Yes, I've gone to the peak before. I can make a map showing the trail to Mount San Jacinto from Long Valley for you. I'll make one and send it to you tonight. It is very easy to find the way unless there is lots of fresh snow and you have to break trail. Even if we get a little snow this weekend, it's sure to melt off pretty fast. Are you thinking of going up on the first tram Sunday?

I got tied up last night and didn't send you the map, but I will do it tonight for sure. The Topo software is just loaded on my home computer, so I need to work on it in the evening. I have DeLorme software at work, but the maps it produces aren't very good.

"controversial sensitive area" :!: :?:

well i like your map better perry and thank you... it is much larger and detailed, but what is up with the controversial & sensitive area? what does that mean? is there a land battle? some kind of feud? is there an area that is off limits for the benefit of an endangered species during certain times of year :?:

Why is that area considered a controversial sensitive area?
