Smoke is visible from Palm Springs. Per tram website, the tram is closed.

Listening to PSFD on radio sounds like fire started near one of the upper parking lots and then burned up the ridge SE of the valley tram station. I could see flames along the ridge that's just in front of the smoke plume.

Just a guess here, a likely explanation is somebody threw a cigarette out the window while driving.

Someone posted on Facebook that it was a welder doing some kind of maintenance that started the fire, but I have no idea if that story is credible or not.
