Anyone going Saturday 9/8

This is the last week-end before the tram closure for maintenance. The weather is supposed to be about ten degrees cooler than it is today. We might even have some cloud cover. The next good Saturday should be Sept 29 when we have a full moon. I am starting at 2.30 am and have three other hikers who want to do the peak.

Cy, where were you yesterday? Me and Ryan (RJSUSC) were looking for you at the top of Baldy. The results say I live in "no town" because I was at the registration table when the race started.

Perry - I was still stiff and tired from doing Baldy from the Village for the second week in a row. I heard on Summitpost that Ryan and yourself had respectable times at the race.

Cy: It's supposed to be cooler this weekend - it might be a nice time to do it. I'm stuck in a continuing ed class on Saturday and then I'm going to hike up Baden-Powell and on out to Ross Mountain on Sunday.

I'm hoping that it will be cool enough on Sept 22 or 29th the head up the Skyline Trail. I'm really looking forward to my first trip since spring but I don't handle heat very well; so I have to make sure it's cool enough for me to do the hike.

Ellen, We are probably going Sunday. Planning on leaving at midnight from the Desert Museum. We go at a pretty slow pace, thus the early start. We will most likely take 9.5 hrs to the tram station. Some in our group are capable of 7 hrs, but some are not. 5 or 6 going, all males. 2 or 3 peace officers, 2 psychologists, and an engineer. Ages from 30 to 51. Ellen(or anyone else), you are welcome if you can stand the early start and the slow pace. I'll know for sure if we are going by Thursday night, Jim

Cy: I might see you on the way down, I'm thinking about the PCT route if it's cool enough. Are you going to the peak, or stopping at the tram?

Stan - I will probably just go to the tram. I found out on Baldy that the sun can be pretty hot after 10 am even at elevations above 8000 feet.
JimBones - It is wise to start at midnight with a slow group. I might have trouble keeping up with my own group, but that is preferable than having to wait in a hot sun on someone.

Thanks so much for the information -- I hope you're still going on Sunday.
I'm still planning to go and will likely leave around 2 AM. Based on my June climb in similar weather, I'm looking at around 7 hours.

As Z-dude pointed out, your group has a great composition for a long, hard hike. How about a priest for the last rites and a shovel I'll probably be ready for both at Flat Rock
