Recent Devils Slide reports?

Sorry I missed this. You usually won't get much response to a non SJ peak or C2C question on this board.

I did Devil's Slide to Tahquitz in January. It was a beautiful day but microspikes were definitely helpful on the Slide - especially the northern facing and shady sections. Snow got much deeper on the trail to Tahquitz and would probably require snowshoes. I didn't make the peak that day.

I'm heading up Deer Springs and coming down DS tomorrow, will have microspikes along but after the warm week, they may not be necessary.

We did indeed go up Deer Springs on Saturday. We ran into a ranger who warned us about snow on the north facing and shady parts of the PCT over to Saddle Junction.

About a mile out of Strawberry Junction, we turned around. Snow was about a foot and a half deep at least, and we were doing lots of post holing. Microspikes don't do much in those conditions. Plus my hiking partner had work non WP low hikers. Sheesh.

Deer Springs was beautiful though, with a few snow patches above 6k. All in all it was a beautiful walk.

How much snow was there at Strawberry Junction? How about Strawberry Cienega? How was the water flow at the cienega?

Snow was patchy at the junction, increasing to over knee height (at least a foot and a half) on our way to the Wellman Cienega junction. One tent up at the camp sites there. Lots of water flow.

I went up Deer springs - PCT- wellman to the tram on Fri did my south bound footprints help? They were the only ones up there when I went through on fri. I went on to the tram it was deep snow postholing fun after getting off the PCT and on to Wellman.
