We went to the SJ summit today to play in recent snowfall. Snow in Long Valley wasn't too impressive, but the snow midway to the summit and at the summit was very nice.

I thought the wind was so amazing, especially at the summit. It was very dramatic and powerful. I felt as if it was going to lift me off the ground!

And yes, there was much less snow than I expected after the storm, though the winter route was doable finally after 2 years.

As for the pics, I didn't take any. Some of our members are really good photographers. I see them up there with professional cameras. I also think that some may use filters for cool effects.

I ended up having to work over night and wasn't able to go. I'm contemplating going tomorrow. I don't have micro spikes or snow shoes. Am I wasting my time going up there without em?

Based on conditions last Saturday I would recommend having snowshoes.
Perhaps others can add to this. Then again, it's been so warm that a lot of snow could be gone.
I just don't know...

I'm new to the site so I'm not sure if the photo links will work. I had a great time last Sunday at the summit. Conditions were beautiful although windy. It was easy to follow the winter route to the top thanks to the hikers on Saturday.

I broke some new trail on the way up to check out Miller Saddle. Some knee deep snow along the ridge. There was nobody else on the summit Sunday morning.

The thermometer on my watch stopped working at 15 degrees on Saturday night. I camped just below Cornell Peak.

I ran into Ellen with a group headed down on Saturday afternoon. I was the guy wearing shorts.

im going up this weekend - with just hiking boots on (assuming the week's weather - i can make it up to at least wellman's
