At least 4 major hiking books have it listed as well has having made it to the Backpacker top 10 day hikes. I'd say its on the map now. It is rather interesting that the National Geo Maps show the Lykken trail named as C2C.

IMHO I think it's become too popular, but really there is nothing we can do about that. I am going to miss the solitude of doing the Skyline trail by full moon light, feeling like I have the mountain to myself. But such is life, nothing so good can stay underground forever, and through word of mouth and the internet the word is out. I guess we just have to hope that everyone takes it seriously and people stop having to get rescued so that the trail dosn't get closed or monitored or anything inhibiting like that.

info

On goes the debate whether to give out info or not.

I have to say personally, it's best left along, as it will be the ultimate demise of the trail in some way.
I know I'll get many arguing that supplying info is best for safety, but remember the trail has experienced a record number of rescues in a 4 week period recently.

It's kinda like the attitude; if we allow more development of our beautiful desert, we'll have all this tax money to make life better for everybody!?

We'll in my 20 yrs here, I question that approach. I also question whether provided easy access to info on Skyline is the best overall approach.

Most just want to help, but sometimes restraint is beneficial.

It's like having a favorite band and talking them up to all your friends and everyone you know only to have them hit it big and then you can't get concert tickets anymore.

That's how I feel about Skyline. I remember it when no one knew about it and it was a word of mouth hike. And it was special.

Now I've moved on to other adventures which are more of a challenge and offer more solitude. Only thing is I'm not telling anyone about them. Sorry.

I will be going up Skyline with Gary from Germany on Tuesday Sept 11 at 2.30 or 3.00 am. He is a competant mountaineer who has also climbed in the Tetons and wants to go all the way to the summit. Is there anyone else who wants to join us? I will probably just go up to the tram.

I'm interested, but isn't the tram going to be shutdown for maintenance beginning 9/10? I thought I read about the that on another post.

Another factor: the embarrassment of being talked about on this message board after you get rescued.
