Re the Falls, here's a photo of the middle pool:
It's all rock there, so all the water is forced to the surface which is one of the reasons that I say the water there is very reliable.
The lower pool is the best one for swimming in my opinion. You can go straight down the drainage (despite the sign that says something about "impassible falls"), but it's tricky. I think it's easier to go back upstream from the first falls about 50' and climb up and around to the left of these rocks:
Going up and around these rocks will put you into a loose, slidey but doable chute of soft gravel and sandy dirt that you can descend to the lower falls.
Getting to the top of the falls is a fun bit of scrambling (that would be yours, truly, in the maroon shirt).

The whole area is interesting in my opinion and is one of the lesser visited areas. The only real bummer is that you have to hike uphill in order to get out.
