A little Peakbagging Adventure

Hey there guys,

Just wanted to share a little trip I went on last weekend. Started at Humber Park friday night, then peaked Cienaga, Lepake, Jean, San J, and Miller on Saturday, then decided to head out Sunday morning and save the rest of the peaks for another trip.

There was a storm over the little san bernardinos that blew my mind. I literally saw HUNDREDS of flashes in the giant cloud in the distance. We could see 4-5 flashes a second at times, chain lightning style. Didn't hear a single thunder boom, however. Crazy sight...just unbelievable. Hope you guys got to see it too!

How much distance between you and the excitement?

Hey Jim, Cienaga has some epic views... especially of Tahquitz. I recommend it, especially since it is so easy to reach..

HH8, well, we camped about 500 feet below the peak and it looked like the storm was over the little san bernardinos if you know where that is..

We are planning on hiking to San G Sat-Sun. The report says 20-30% chance of thunder storms. Of course baring on the side of caution when summiting what do you think about our chances?

I think you'll get a real charge out of that hike.

Well, even if it doesn't rain, lightning can strike. There are no guarantees, but since thunderstorm activitiy typically picks up in the afternoon, it's best to be off the high stuff before noon. Can you arrange your hike such that you can be down among trees in the afternoons?

In terms of lightning risk, I think you'd be O.K. at Trail Flats. You're off the ridges and down in forest there.
