chinquapin and manzanita

This last storm didn't bring enough snow to cover the chinquapin and manzanita between Tamarack Valley and Miller Saddle. Maybe 1.5 feet fell, but it's melting fast. There are some deeper drifts and then you sink in pretty good in the areas where the snow is buoyed up by the chaparral.

I didn't last long out there. Karl and some other guy broke trail too. Someone had broken trail to the Sid Davis Round Valley junction on Thursday. On Friday, I broke trail from the junction to 9,400' and then again from 9,800' to about 10,000'. Karl broke a lower trail that paralleled mine for a section before Tamarack Valley, and some other guy came along and broke trail between 9400' and 9800'. I was pooped when he came along; so it was nice to follow his tracks for a while. I kept going when he turned back at about 9800', but I was tired and I don't like when the snow doesn't cover the chaparral; so I turned back just before 10,000'.

I got my money's worth out of my annual tram pass this year, but I'm not going to get another one until next winter; so I'm done riding the tram for a while.
