Cornell Peak

In my trips to the summit of San Jacinto, I've always really liked Cornell peak. Are there any trails that lead to Cornell peak and does it require any bushwacking? Anyone here summitted Cornell peak? I'm looking for any info that you can provide. Thanks!

Thanks for the info. Has anyone here done this hike in the last couple of years? I'm wondering if there is much bushwacking involved. Also, how exposed is this climb? I've done half dome so I don't mind some exposure but I'm also not a rock climber.

Haven't been; can't say about the brush, but just reading the HPS write up, it sounds like the rock's not a problem -- except the summit block itself, which is recommends you stay off of unless you're a climber.

Cornell is not too tough, just a class 3 scramble. The summit block is scary with lots of exposure on the north side.

How big/tall is the summit block? Are you pretty close to the true summit if you stop at the summit block?

I was just up to Cornell Peak with my boys in June. We made it up most of the way, but didn't get to the summit block since the last bit was a little spicier than I wanted to have the boys try. If I was by myself, I may have gone for the top though, so I'd say give it a try. Look at this page for more info

just the summit block is a little difficult - Class 3/4 to get on the very top.

Thanks for the pictures. So if I were to stop at the base of the summit block, is that pretty close to the true summit? Is the register at the base of the summit block? I read on the HPS website that the register is at the base of the "chimney." Is the chimney the summit block?

The last time I was up there many years ago the register was on some rocks below the summit block on the east side of the peak.
