The Aqua Caliente tribe is a private entity (or sovereign nation to use the PC term) and does not require public discussion of any of their actions. They could close trails without recourse. They have long been a friend of hikers but who's to say they will always be. If land remains in public domain, the public has some say in what happens to it and how it is managed.

The exchange is also a VERY bad deal for taxpayers. The tribe is giving up land that is very remote and has no value whatsoever while they are getting some land that is usable and close to other property that they own. It was widely discussed in the other thread and IMO should be opposed wholeheartedly.

I'm a bit confused by this thread, but if the need arises I am ready to join the protest! Hopefully it won't come to that. Yet another rerouted trail we do not need, no thanks to DWP or whatever those letters were!!
