Excellent, one more storm after this one with 6-12 inches and I'll call it skiable.

Looking up from Palm Springs a bit ago looks like snow down to around the 6500' level or so.

Howdy Carl :)

I hear you -- I'm torn between wanting the Skyline traverse clear of snow and wanting enough snow to start tram shoeing and climbing up the Baldy Bowl with crampons and axe.

It's snowing again right now (Sunday a bit after 12 noon).

Miles of smiles,

Not to worry about the snow. It's too shallow to present a real hazard, and just crisp enough to offer great traction. I did it yesterday and it was the best I've ever seen it, snow or no. I would probably bring microspikes next weekend just to ensure the traction is excellent.

Gotta enjoy these conditions while they last. If the PCT run doesn't pan out next weekend, I might be on Skyline again myself.

Howdy Z :)

Do you think the PCT hike (err..run in your case) will be doable? From Round Valley up to the summit was a PITA on Sat and I imagine the Fuller Ridge, LRV side has more snow.

Skyline November 10

Postby Carl F » Fri Nov 11, 2011 10:24 am

Thanks everyone for the help on this hike, my first Skyline on 11/10/11; especially the person who posted gpx coordinates!! They saved me from going the wrong way about 4 times!! Perfect conditions, nice snow from flatrock but didn't really need microspikes (though they would have been handy I was too lazy to put them on at that point). I expect that will change by tonight - lets hope for a huge dump!!! Final time of 7:49 leaves me plenty of room for improvement :D :D :D. Such a beautiful hike, for some reason I didn't really expect that part. No wonder everyone around here is addicted to it!
