Well better late than never! I finally got a hold of Chuck's pics from the backpack trip along the Pacific Crest Trail that we did early June. The wet winter produced quite the flower show on the Desert Divide.

Indeed there is some beautiful country in the Palm Springs area. I look forward to visits to PS and more great hiking. I can feel the urge to fly south already! It is already feeling a bit like fall way up here in Seattle. At this high latitude, fall arrives early. The sun is slanting farther to the south, the shadows are growing longer even at noon, and the first "fall" rainshowers are making an appearance. Hopefully we will get a long indian summer, but chances are there aren't too many more weeks of dry warm weather left this year.

For now the weather is looking good through next week. Time to get out and enjoy that great hiking in the Cascades! Last week of August and early September is a great time to hike in the Northwest.

The water was sure gushing in June, even if the outhouse hadn't melted free yet.
