Current Conditions: San J from Idyllwild

Hi,

I was hoping to hike up to the top of San Jacinto Peak on Saturday, June 25, starting from Idyllwild taking the Deer Springs Trail/PCT up and on the way down looping around Wellmans Divide, Strawberry Cienegas and reconnecting with the PCT, Deer Springs Trail again....essentially a 20 mile, +5200' gain loop.

My main concern....What are the current snow conditions like along any stretch of the trails mentioned above? I can deal with patches of snow here and there, but if most of the trails are fully covered in snow then I'll have to wait till July.

Howdy Amin

I'll be hiking the Deer Springs trail early next week. Will also be doing a nice loop from the tram this Saturday. I'll post trail reports after these hikes.

Last Friday (10Jun) I did a loop from Devils Slide, through Willow Creek to Hidden Divide, up from Round Valley to Wellman's Divide, and back to Saddle Junction and Devil's Slide. On your route the trail from Wellman's to junction with PCT was mostly clear with only the occasional snow bank that was easily crossed. I can't speak to peak conditions or west side, but there are plenty of C2C hikers here that can speak to snow on the peak at least.

everythings fine on your route, small patches, little more at the very peak..nothing to worry about at all.
