As further proof that talent skips a generation I have a relative who is a very capable trail runner. He was a member of the University of Colorado cross country team that captured the 2004 NCAA National Team Championship. He is an avid trail runner and has placed 5th at the 2008 USATF Mountain Trail Championships, and recently took 6th in the 2011 USA National Snowshoe Championships.
If he visits. Would any of you greyhounds be willing to train with him. I could show him the trail, but i'm afraid he be a little bored with the pace.

Hi Lightgy,

I would be happy to train with your relative. A few potential approaches that I recommend, but of course he could choose which approach fits best with him.
1. The command post approach - I sit on a strategic location where he is visible most of the time. I yell at him over a two-way radio, "move it, move it", etc.
2. The Point-to-Point approach - we begin a race at the museum. He hikes C2C, I jump in my car to the tram station and race to the top in a tram car. Winner insults the loser or similar.
3. Staying Connected Approach - He and I take off from the museum. When arriving at the picnic area, he carries me to a few hundred feet short of Grubbs Notch (very good strengthing and endurance work). We race to the top from there. Winner insults loser or similar.

Those all all good options. I have thought of many of these myself. ( My Avatar is very indicative of my speed.)

I guess I made a mistake saying "train" with my nephew. I just thought maybe I could hook him up with some of the trail runners on this site while he's out here.
