Felipe: Am I reading your post correct? Are you saying that people post misleading information on this forum? I haven't noticed any of that.

What did you have in mind lancemaria?
Some like it HOT, some don't. I'd tend to agree
with others here, the Wilderness - San Jac. + San G.
Might be closed soon because of possible fire threats.
Hard to say. Don't mind traveling south just a little? The Inca Trail
in Peru is great this time of the year...... Really,
did it 3 years ago August had a blast. Sure Zip and KWing will
probably have a suggestion or two also.

Yes: go high and stay high. It's hot out there.

As for specifics, how good of shape are you in? How many miles long have been your most recent hikes?

One good one is always San Jacinto from the tram.

Old Boy Scout Returns....

Postby tetilaw » Mon Aug 20, 2007 4:16 pm

Hi all:

Used to hike all the peaks in So Cal as a Scout many moons ago.....now trying to recapture that magic......

Wife and I have a trip scheduled for Labor Day (2007) weekend. On Friday morning we'll leave from the tram to Round Valley, where we'll camp. Saturday we plan to do a day hike to San Jacinto peak. Hike back to the tram on Sunday.

From what I can gather there's a spigot at Round Valley, but the flow rate depends on recent precipitation? Anyone know what it's been like lately? And/or are there any streams this time of year?

Being the good former Boy Scout, I guess I'll plan for no water (and pack it all in), but hope for the spigot.

Any insight or current info would be great!

I was up there a month or so ago, and water was still flowing out of the spigot, albeit slowly. For current conditions, you could just call the ranger station at 951-659-2607 and ask them what the current flow is.

There is water available at the upper tram station and at the ranger station in Longs Valley.

There aren't any creeks or streams near Round Valley that I'm aware of that are flowing.
