Guadalupe Trail 11/13

Anyone interested in doing to Guadalupe Trail this Saturday 11/13? There's a group hiking down from Sugarloaf and I'm going to be hiking up and doing a key swap. I'm not sure yet how many are hiking down but we'll probably have a few cars waiting up top to drive down.

I updated the link with my email. There will be two cars on Hwy 74 so there will be no need to hassle a car shuttle. Should be a perfect day to go and you won't have to wake up as early as doing Skyline.

I really enjoy the Gaudalupe hike -- have only done it twice.

We've had a somewhat short Skyline season this year due to the late snow melt off, so I'm taking advantage of the cooler weather to get a few more trips in before snow hits the traverse.

Would love to see you on the PCT to tram hike the following weekend if your schedule permits.

Too bad you won't give up the highway for the wilderness this weekend. It looks like I'll be alone on the Guadalupe while the hoards will be clogging the Skyline, as usual. I just wonder how I'm going to drive two cars down from Sugarloaf.

I'll try to see if I can get away for the PCT. I enjoyed it last year so I'll see if the wife will give me permission. It'd be nice not to have to deal with the snow and ice like last year.

Hal, I honestly would love to go if I hadn't had a plans for another trip this weekend, they've been made for awhile and it's a good one. That being said, the Gaudalupe is one of the most beautiful trails in the area, there is something so magical about being there, the vegetation is more electric, and the sense of solitude and peace is wonderful. Right now, the Ocotillo are really doing good up there, as are all the other guys. And having to not have to get a car up there or hitchhike down ! A huge plus ! Have a great trip Hal.

Did the Guadalupe Trail from La Quinta to Sugarloaf solo and had what was probably the most perfect day on the trail one could imagine. Weather was perfect, didn't have to get up too early. Met the group I was rendezvousing with at the Cowboy Camp (I got there about 15 minutes before they got arrived) and other than the people I was meeting I didn't see another person the entire day. It was delightful.

The only slight mishap I had was bumping into a nasty Cholla and getting shish kabobed by that. I forgot to bring a comb so I had to improvise and used my iPod headphone cable to wrap around the cactus and pull it out. I took a bit over 6 hours and after the hike I meet up with the downhill crew for beer and pizza.
